Salvation

The one single need of man today is a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Man was created to be an dependent creature. Dependent upon God for the very necessities of life. Without God, man is at a deficit, with no direction or purpose in life. I believe that God would have all men every where to be saved.

How does man come to a saving knowledge of Christ?

Man must come to realize their need of a Savior. If man needs a Savior he needs to know what he needs to be saved from.

1. Man is a sinner

  • Isaiah 53:6 - "All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned everyone to his own way..."
  • Romans 3:23 - "For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God."
  • Isaiah 64:6 - "But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags..."
  • Romans 3:10 - "As it is written, There is none righteous no not one."
  • Romans 3:10 - is a quote from Psalm 14:1, 3

2. Sin has a penalty

  • Romans 6:23 - "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord
  • This death is a physical death and a spiritual death...Rev. 2:11
  • Romans 5:12 - "Wherefore as by one man, sin entered into the world and death by sin: and so death passed upon all men for all have sinned."
  • Romans 5:19 - "For as by one mans disobedience many were made sinners..."

3. Man cannot save himself from the result of their sin

  • Ephesians 2:8, 9 - "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God. Not of works lest any man should boast."
  • Galatians 2:16 - "Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith in Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified."
  • Titus 3:5 - "Not by works of righteousness that we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us."
  • Proverbs 14:12 - "There is way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end is thereof are the ways of death."

4. God has provided one way for salvation: that is through His Son Jesus Christ.

  • John 14:6 - "Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father but by me."
  • John 3:16 - "For God so loved the world that he gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life."
  • Romans 5:8 - "But God commendeth His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners Christ died for us."
  • Romans 6:23 - "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord."

5. Man must accept this free gift of God

  • Romans 10:9,10 - "That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation."
  • John 1:12 - "But as many as receive Him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His name."
  • The Bible says, "For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved." (Romans 10:13)

For those that have truly trusted Christ as Savior, the following has just taken place:

  1. Your sins were forgiven (Colossians 1:14)
  2. You become a Son of God (John 1:12)
  3. You are made an heir of God (Romans 8:16, 17)
  4. You now possess everlasting life (John 3:16)

I John 5:12-13
"He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son hath not life. These things have I written unto you that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God."
